I recently had an exchange related to the post I wrote on Tuesday about changing your perspective on a situation instead of changing how you see the people involved. The post addresses my brief stay with my cousin at college, and I later got an email from my aunt, her mother, expressing offense at the content.

I learned a couple things from this episode. First, it’s a big mistake to not think about other people’s feelings. Sometimes you don’t realize you need to, but it should always be a consideration. Second, in the reply email I sent, I noticed that my own hurt and anger emotions were seeping through into the text, despite my attempts to restrain them. Apparently, we’re not as good as we think we are at avoiding bad emotions.

I will try to write more considerate blog posts in the future! I hope both this post and the previous post were helpful to some people, and am sorry for any hurt unintentionally caused by any of my posts.
